Rachel Drummond has spent most of her adult life in golf. She played professionally on the Ladies European Tour, moved into coaching, then into media, and now travels the world with LIV Golf as an on-the-ground broadcaster.
From the outside, she comes across calm, articulate, always smiling. Someone who looks like she's got life handled.
This conversation goes somewhere else.
Rachel lost both parents young. She talks about what grief looked like when life kept moving, and how long she spent in survival mode before realising that's what it was. She also speaks openly about being sexually abused as a child, something she carried quietly for years before choosing to say it out loud.
It's an honest conversation about grief, identity, and what happens when you finally slow down enough to feel what you've been outrunning.
Rachel talks about some heavy stuff in this episode, sexual abuse, grief, years of keeping it all running quietly in the background. But what comes through most is how straightforwardly she does it. There's no performance. She just says what happened and what it cost her, and somehow that directness makes the whole thing land harder than any big emotional moment would.
She's funny, too. And honest in a way that feels earned rather than rehearsed. At one point she cries mid-conversation and sort of notices it happening in real time, like her brain's catching up with something her body already knew. It's a small moment, but it stays with you.
What makes Rachel's story worth listening to is the bit that comes after the hard stuff. The recalibration. Working out what a good life actually looks like when you stop measuring it the way everyone else seems to. Slowing down on purpose. Letting happiness be the thing you optimise for, rather than just output or endurance.
It's a proper conversation, and Rachel's good company through it.
